6 Tips to Stay Focused on Your Personal Path to Purpose
I went to yoga earlier this year with unshaven underarms. I’m not sure it was enough to notice, but I felt a little uncomfortable with my sleeveless top on.
That quickly changed after my teacher, also female, raised her arms for our first stretch.
She had more hair in her pits than my husband. I smiled. I felt immediate relief. I also felt a sense of admiration.
I know, I know, some of you may be grossed out, but stay with me.
Sometimes, we’ve got to be the female yoga teacher with hairy armpits – that person who makes decisions and walks in her truth no matter what other people think.
And smile doing it. This woman has the sweetest demeanor.
Waiting on approval to make a move can mean waiting a lifetime.
Seeking purpose and then pursuing it is often about not caring what others think.
It’s about boldly going after what matters to you (or maybe figuring out what that is), and not depending on the social media likes or thumbs-up emojis.
Here’s a few tips to stay focused on your personal path to purpose:
✅ Observe your adopted beliefs that tell you why you aren’t qualified to do something. That doubting voice will keep you stuck if you let it.
✅ Believe in your abilities because no one else can do it for you. Compliments can’t keep you in a permanent state of “I can do this,” so stop relying on them.
✅ Choose not to care about what others think. It’s a choice. One that often takes practice. Start small like with going to yoga class with underarms that aren’t freshly shaven. 😳
✅ Understand your life path is like no one else’s in this universe so resist the urge to compare yourself to others.
✅️ Trust your journey. Mine hasn’t gone how I had planned 20 years ago, and that’s OK. It’s about getting the lessons along the way and enjoying the speed bumps that force us to slow down.
✅ Start today (on something small). Begin focusing your energy today on what matters to you while dismissing the distractions.
It’s hard these days to focus on purpose, particularly if you feel like you’ve been pushed into survival-mode. Try to use this coronavirus situation as that speed bump to slow down.
I encourage you to resist getting pulled into the frenzy and, instead, reflect while forced to be home more.
